Instrumental Mind Control
A bass tone that was created by running a sample through a low pass filter.
A few nights ago, I just couldn’t go to sleep. So I made a quick beat. Nothing serious.
Tempo: 90 bpm
From The 90-95′s tape.
I decided to play around with some filters again. I duplicated the sample, ran one through a low pass and the other through a high pass. Then I simply turned each one on and off as I needed. There are 3 verses that are pretty fairly similar. DJ scratches and congas throughout the beat.

I named this beat after me and my wife’s favorite park in Manhattan — Bryant Park.
For this instrumental, I used an old sample that I had that was pretty short. I cut it into a few pieces and created a loop with it. I then found a cool old break beat that I thought fit well over the sample and programmed my own drums over the break.
I took it back to my old sampling and filtering days with this one. There’s not much to it. The sample switches back and forth between the normal and filtered versions, and follows this pattern throughout the beat. Enjoy.

This is a pretty old beat. I actually have an original recording of this that came out better than this version, but it got lost in the shuffle over the years. So this is the only other version I have.

I made this beat about 5 years ago (from the above release date) on a mpc 2k. I had chopped up this sample into a million pieces and just rearranged them into this. It’s a weird underground beat. No idea if there’s room for any rapping, but feel free to listen all you want!

This is another hip hop beat that I made with a Brazilian samba sample, the first being Mato Grosso. The sample was pretty short so I tried to make it work as best as I could. Hope you like.

Maybe someone will like this. It didn’t quite come out the way I planned, and the mix is not so good. Should have left the chimes out but I didn’t. So take this beat as is. I made this a few weeks ago.

I made this beat with Maschine and FL Studio 10. The way that the guitar is arranged actually happened by accident. I’m not really sure how or what happened, but I thought it sounded kinda cool. The bass may be too high.

This beat is weird. I stumbled onto a weird sound that I picked a piece out of and looped. Then I just built up from there. I was messing with filters again. I don’t think the mix is very good as there’s a lot of clutter in the low end. Two of the samples I ran through a heavy low pass and the low frequencies probably clash a little. The whole beat is just weird to me. I like the idea though. I had it in my head but sometimes translating that onto record isn’t easy.

This is Acoustic Rock / Hip Hop Attempt #1.
Ok this was actually something different that I forced myself to try, so this will fall under the experimental category. I have no idea what genre this would fall under. Can anyone let me know what they think? My purpose for doing this was that I’m trying to think differently and use sounds that I’ve never used before.
I don’t know a whole lot about the general Rock genre or it’s huge lot of sub genres. So This came out a little bland with respect to the arrangement . The drums and main guitar riff don’t change much but it’s a start. I think once I can learn more about what actually goes into a rock song, I can start to incorporate that into my hip hop and start blending the two a little better.
When I hear this, the first thing that comes to mind is someone telling a story about an angry man. And apparently his name is John…
